Spring term 

 

Painting

 

1. Children to learn about the colour wheel and be able to mix their own hot and cold colours. Show blending techniques using mixed media, pastels, powder paints, water colours, colouring pencils

2. Make models of volcanoes out of papier mache / modroc.

3. Children to compare and contrast the works of impressionist artists

 (Monet, Degas, Renoir, Van Gogh) and express what they think the artist is trying to convey in their work.

4. Study ‘The Water Lily Pond’ in particular.

5. Children to sketch their own water lily using pastels.

6.Whole class frieze of ‘The Water Lily Pond’ to be constructed, including the bridge and weeping willow from crepe/ tissue paper and strips of found green organza fabric

7. Copy and paste images of water lilies onto a word document and collage the bridge feature over with textured papers in a range of green hues.

 

Autumn term

 

3D sculpture 

 Children to look at examples of cave paintings found in France.
 Children make a replica drawing of a cave painting onto black sugar paper, using pastels, crayons and chalks.
 Children to make a ‘sgraffitto plate’ of a cave painting and etch out the outline using a masonry nail. The painting will depict the image of a Stone Age animal.
