Home Learning 11th May 2020

This week, we will continue to use the White Rose Hub materials to help us use maths facts to solve problems. The problems this week are using the skills we would usually use in basic skills. Use the document below to remind yourself how we draw tens sticks and ones for each number, adding up the tens first and then the ones. You might want to have a practise with an adult if you haven't done it in a while. Use numbers that add up to 50 first and then 100. If you want a challenge, you can then see if you can do it in your head and if you can add up numbers that go above 100.

Monday- adding and subtracting tens

Watch the video and play the adding tens game. If you can add tens, can you add multiples of ten? Can you subtract ten and multiples of ten?

Tuesday- add two digit numbers

Watch the video and practise adding two digit numbers using the worksheet below. Remember to draw out those tens and ones if you need to! You could even use things at home if you don't want to draw them out e.g. lolly pop sticks or pencils for tens and lego for ones.

Wednesday- subtract two digit numbers

Use the video and practise using tens and ones to take away. Sometimes there will be enough ones for you to take away

35 - 13 =

30 - 10 = 20

5 - 3 = 2

20 + 2 = 22

But sometimes, there won't be enough ones

45 - 28 =

40 - 20 = 20

5 - 8 =

When this happens, you need to 'knock next door' (borrow a ten) to swap a ten stick for ten ones

1. draw out the tens and ones for the largest number- 4 tens and 5 ones (for the question above)

2. take away the tens (so you had 4, now you have 2)

3. you can't take 8 ones away because you've only drawn 5 for 45. Cross out a ten stick and draw ten ones instead. You now have 15 ones. Take away 8.

4. see what you have left

We have practised this lots in school, but if you haven't done it in a while, you may need to have a few goes before you feel confident again :)

Thursday- bonds to 100 (tens and ones)

Watch the video and practise using the ultimate number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 worksheets.

Friday- maths challenge

For this, you'll need to revisit the White Rose website and watch the video! Good luck!
