Local History: The life of a significant individual.
How did Kitty Wilkinson help to clean my clothes?
This topic will help children begin to understand how things change over time. They will learn about Kitty Wilkinson who lived in Liverpool during the cholera epidemic of 1832. Kitty helped her neighbours to recognise that washing themselves and their clothes was important to stop the spread of germs and disease. The children will use a dolly tub, posser, dolly stick, washing board and carbolic soap and learn why Kitty is remembered today.
