Welcome to Year One - Autumn Term 2020
Class Teachers – Miss Cotter (Mon-Wed) Miss Whyte (Wed-Fri)
Ms McCall (one-to-one) Miss Murray (one-to-one)
Miss Newson (one-to-one)
Welcome to your child’s first term in Year One! We hope you and your families are well. We are astounded by the way in which our children have settled into their new class and new routines. They have enjoyed seeing all of their friends again and had fun exploring their new classroom and building relationships with staff members. We are so very proud of them; they are such a lovely bunch and we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
We will continue to use the website to communicate important messages so keep checking our webpage regularly. Parental partnership is extremely important within Year One and we aim to build positive relationships with all parents and carers. In current circumstances it can be difficult to have a private word with a member of staff during drop off or pick up due to social distancing. If you need to speak to a member of staff about any concerns, you can ring the school office to arrange a call or if you prefer you can email us. Please remember no concern or worry is too small and your child’s happiness and wellbeing in school is our priority.

We will continue to line up at 8:45 am in the main playground. Children are to be collected at 3:00 pm – parents to wait by the gate on the main playground where children enter school in the mornings. Can we ask that only one adult from each household accompanies your child to school and that adults are wearing face coverings, unless they are exempt. Staff will also be wearing face coverings at these times. Please ensure the office have up to date contact numbers and inform a member of staff if someone new will be collecting your child. We also ask that you have patience with staff during this time as we get to know all of your faces.
Things that your child needs to bring into school daily:
We will be beginning phonics lessons next week. Your child will receive a new phonics reading book every Monday. These need to be read at home every night. They are not very long, and your child should be able to read these independently with very little help. Children who practise reading at home feel more confident when reading the same book in our phonics sessions, develop fluency and make faster progress.
PE will be taking place on a Wednesday afternoon. PE kits are to remain in school for the half term. Please ensure PE kits are all named.
Homework books were sent home this week and we kindly ask that during the current circumstances these remain at home. The children will be given a paper copy of their homework on a Friday, which will also be uploaded to the website. As you will not be sending the completed homework back to school it is important for you to support and monitor your child’s homework and make staff aware of any issue that may arise. Spellings will soon be going out on a Friday also.
