Autumn Term 2021
Welcome to your first term in Year One! We hope you have had an enjoyable Summer break. We are looking forward to welcoming your children into their new class and getting to know them. Our priority will be ensuring your child feels safe and secure and settles quickly into their new class and new routines. We have lots of exciting things planned for our first term - for more information about each subject please check the curriculum subject folders.
In the mornings we ask that you gather on the main playground and wait with your child until the whistle is blown at 8:55 am. When the member of staff on duty blows the whistle the children will line up - there will be a member of our class there to greet them. Children are to be collected at 3:15 pm – parents to gather by the gate on the main playground where children enter school in the mornings and not outside the classroom door. We call the children out, one at a time, as we see someone to collect them so please be patient as we get to know your faces. Please ensure the office have up to date contact numbers and inform a member of staff if someone new will be collecting your child.
What should my child bring into school?
Your child should bring a school book bag into school each day. This needs to be a school one so it will fit inside their tray. Children are permitted to bring a named water bottle into school daily and can bring in a healthy snack for each break time. There will be also be fruit provided in school for the children each day and drinking water will be available throughout the day.
PE will take place on Tuesday afternoons, your child is to come into school on this day in their PE kit. This should be the school PE kit (purple shorts and white t-shirt). If it is colder weather they may wear black tracksuit bottoms. They may also wear trainers on this day instead of their school shoes.
Reading books and homework:
Reading books will be given out after an initial settling in period. Your child will be placed in a Read, Write, Inc phonics group and will have a book matched to their group level. The book they take home is the book that they will be reading in their phonics group, therefore it is important that they practise reading it at home. They may also have an additional book for extra practise.
Home work will be sent home every week in your child's homework book. This is to be returned into school by the following Wednesday. Spellings will also go out on a Friday to be learnt for a spelling test the following Friday.
We have lots of lovely things planned for this term and we are so excited to welcome you all back to school! Keep checking the website for regular updates.
