A huge welcome back to all our children and families, we hope you have all had a lovely summer.

It is great to introduce you all to Year 6 and we are all very much looking forward to the year ahead.

Please see below for our Year 6 routines and click on the folders for further information about our curriculum.

We will regularly update our class page to keep you up-to-date.

General Information

Morning registration

Children will assemble on the school yard and a member of staff will be present from 8.45am. At 8.55am, a whistle will be blown which the cue for all children to stand still.  A second whistle will be blown and in response to this, the children will walk into their classroom lines to avoid early morning bumps and bruises!  Each class teacher will meet their pupils outside. Breakfast club is available for any parents who require this provision.

End of the school day.

Please wait outside the classroom door at the end of the school day.  Always ensure that you contact the school office if your child is going home with another adult - or another child in the class - as safeguarding procedure require this instruction. If at any point in the school year you make the decision to allow your child to walk home alone, please contact the school office or a member of the year six team. We will require written permission if we have not already received it.

Water bottles.

Please ensure that your child brings to school a water bottle for them to drink from during the day. Please do not send your child with juice in their class water bottles.

Uniform.

Please label your child's school uniform as it makes it very difficult for us to identify lost items. When playing games, the children will often take their jumpers and cardigans off and leave them on the yard which can result in staff spending a long time tracking belongings down.

Book bags.

If possible, please purchase a school book bag from the school office as they are extremely useful for keeping reading books and homework safe and organised (especially when extra worksheets are sent home). Rucksacks should be avoided due to space limitations.

Homework

As you know, homework is an important part of consolidating the children’s knowledge of what they learn in school. The children will receive worksheets consisting of spellings and punctuation or grammar-based homework on Mondays. This will be due in on the following Friday. Additionally, they will receive maths worksheets on Friday, to be completed and returned by the following Monday. Each child will be given a book to complete their homework in.

The children will all be given a home reading book which MUST come into school daily. Please support your child with reading by encouraging them to read for at least 15 minutes per day.

PE

Year 6 has PE each Thursday. The children should come into school wearing their PE kits on this day. On the cooler days, the children can wear plain black jogging bottoms or leggings over their PE shorts. Football kits and leisure wear are not permitted.

Trips

We will be visiting Holy Family on Thursday 16th September when the class will be taking part in cookery, music and drama lessons. The children should wear their PE kits for this and lunch will be provided. The Holy Family school bus will collect us at 9.00am and we should return to school for approximately 1.45pm.
