OUR VISION AND ETHOS
At St William of York we see difference as an asset. Including those with a range of different strengths and needs is a core part of our educational vision. Inclusion runs through each of the school’s core values of care, challenge and community.
St William of York Primary School is committed to meeting the needs of all pupils including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We expect every child with SEND to receive a full and enriching education to enable them to achieve their potential. This is so that they can make a successful and happy transition into adulthood, whether that is accessing employment, further education or training.
We involve external experts whenever necessary to improve our offer and ensure that children’s needs are identified and met as quickly as possible. We similarly ensure that staff have the relevant training and support to ensure that best practice is used with regard to SEND. Teachers, support staff and our Sendco and Inclusion Consultant have frequent and open communication ensuring that the school community works together to implement plans and provide for children with SEND.
At every step of this process, we aim to involve parents and families and build trusting and open relationships. It is important that we work as a team with you to ensure the best outcomes for all children.
At St William of York Catholic Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, understood and fully included in school life.
We are proud to work in partnership with OSSME Autism Initiatives and Liverpool Speech and Language Therapy to strengthen our inclusive offer and provide high-quality support for our children.
Through these partnerships, we are able to access specialist advice, training and targeted support to help us meet a wide range of needs, including autism, communication and interaction, speech and language development, emotional regulation and social communication.
Our work with specialist professionals also supports our staff to develop their knowledge, adapt classroom practice and create environments where children can communicate, participate and learn successfully.
By working closely with children, families, school staff and specialist services, we aim to identify needs early and put the right support in place. This forms an important part of our whole-school approach to SEND and inclusion.
Our aim is simple: every child should feel that they belong, are supported to achieve and are given every opportunity to flourish.
